Mahabharat: The first ever Nuclear War!!

Mahabharat: Considered as one of the deadliest and scariest war till date. The war of Mahabharat was so scary and deadly that it scared the whole world to attack on India for nearly 5000 years. The weapons used in the war were so deadly that even the remains from the war were destroyed to ashes.

It is stated that in this 18 day war, 1.6 billion people laid down their lives. IS IT POSSIBLE?? IF SO, WHAT WERE THE FORCES INVOLVED?? Just visualize for a moment:

The ancient words “Dhanush” and “Astras” doesn’t remind you of “Launchers” and “Missiles” Were our ancestors, the creators of nuclear weapons?? To know the answer to that we have to dig down deep into the vedas, purans and Mahabharat.

So, let’s look at some of the deadly weapons used in the war of Mahabharat and how we can provide some mordern day analogy related to that weapon.

#5 Brahmastra

This weapon has be described in many Puranas. It is considered as the deadlier weapon compared to it’s counter parts. It can be used only when every resource of ta warrior has been completed, for the good of mankind a warrior can use this astra. According to it’s description in ancient scriptures, the specific target will face total destruction and everything around it will be destroyed.

Modern-Day Analogy: Considering the power and the description of the weapon saying ‘the specific target will face total destruction’ we can only say it was nothing less than a Atom-Bomb.

#4 Brahmashirsha Astra

As per the ancient texts, this astra is considered 4x more powerful than the Brahmastra. It is assumed that it holds the power of Lord Brahma’s four heads at the tip. In Mahabharat, it is explained that when this weapon is invoked, “It blazes up with terrible flames within a huge sphere of fire. Numerous peals of thunder were heard, thousands of meteors fell and all living creatures became terrified with great dread. The entire sky seemed to be filled with noise and assumed a terrible aspect with flames of fire. The whole earth with her mountains and waters and trees trembled.” When it strikes an area it will cause complete destruction and nothing will ever grow, not even a blade of grass for the next 12 years. It will not rain for 12 years in that area and everything including metal and earth becomes poisoned.

Modern-Day Analogy: What can be more powerful than a atom bomb? A 2x powerful hydrogen bomb or maybe a thermo-nuclear bomb!!

#3 Narayan Astra

The personal weapon of lord Vishnu. This weapon according to the ancient scriptures, is a powerful weapon that fires a powerful tirade of millions of deadly missiles simultaneously. The only way to defend towards this weapon is to show total submission before the missile hits. It can be used only once in a lifetime. If the user wee to attempt invoking it a second time, it would attack the user itself.

When it was used, Ekadasha (Eleven) Rudras appeared in the sky to destroy Pandavas. Millions of types of weapons like Chakra, Gadha & ultra sharp arrows appeared in rage to destroy them. Who ever tried to offend were destroyed. Shri Krishna who knew how to cool down the Narayanastra advised Pandavas and their army to immediately drop all types and sorts of weapons from their hands and utterly surrender to the great astra of Lord Vishnu. Everybody does the same and survives.

Ashwatthamma uses Narayanastra

Modern-Day Analogy: It could be a huge circular disc kind of battle station that fires ‘n’ number of various missiles on all moving targets. The only way to escape it, to give in by standing still.

#2 Trishul / Sudarshan chakra

These 2 are the signature weapons of the supreme Gods, Shiva and Vihnu. Both are unmatched in power by any earthly weapons and are supreme in their own aspects. Their powers are limitless. Both are the weapons of will, they act as their user desires.

Trishul:  When looked upon as a weapon of Shiva, the trishula is said to destroy the three worlds: the physical world, the world of the forefathers (representing culture drawn from the past) and the world of the mind (representing the processes of sensing and acting). The three worlds are supposed to be destroyed by Shiva into a single non-dual plane of existence, that is bliss alone

Sudarshan Chakra: The Sudarshana Chakra is a spinning, disk-like weapon, literally meaning “disk of auspicious vision,” having 108 serrated edges used by the Hindu god Vishnu and has the capability to travel several million yojanas (1 Yojana = 8 kms) at a blink of an eye. It is not thrown at anyondy, rather, by willpower, it is sent against the enemy. It has tremendous occult and spiritual power to destroy everything.

Modern-Day analogy: Thinking on the description of these weapons, we can assume that these were the modern missiles which used auto target systems 5000 years ago. The reusable missiles that returns at the location from where it was fired!!

#1 Bramhadanda

According to the ancient Hindu scriptures, this weapon is mentioned superior to any other weapon in terms of capabilities and destruction it could cause. It had the ability to nullify the effects of any weapon. Intresting thing about this weapon according to the scriptures is that it can swallow anything i is targeted on!!

Modern-Day Analogy: A device capable of creating a black-hole, capable of swallowing whole universe if used at full capability!!

Conclusion

Seeing the descriptions provided in the ancient scriptures about the weapons used in the was of Mahabharat, we can surely assume that our ancestors had some kind of advanced technology that we are not capable of developing even now. The weapons used in Mahabharat surely had the capabilities of a nuclear bomb and were even more advanced, we can do nothing but imagine how deadly the war would have been!!
